About Kosciuszko Run 2011

“The Kosciuszko Run 2011” has been created to commemorate the 171 year anniversary of the discovery of Mount Kosciuszko by Sir Pawel Edmund Strzelecki in 1840. It is a 11km run through Australia’s High Country aimed at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, whilst showcasing the beauty of the mountain and teaching a new generation about the history of the highest peak in Australia and the life of Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

A Day of Fun at Kosciuszko Run

Kosciuszko Picnic & Live Concert will begin with Kosciuszko Run 2011 at 9am, on Saturday 12 of February 2011.

The ‘Summit Walk’ track will lead competitors across Kosciuszko National Park, NSW in Australia - from the starting line at Charlotte Pass Ski Resort Kosciuszko Chalet Hotel at 1730 m. to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko 2228 m.

After the start the course follows the village entry road 750m up to Kosciuszko Road, turns left and follows the Kosciuszko Road 1km to the start of the Summit Walk off the Charlotte Pass lookout car park. It is then 9.27 km to the finish at the summit. The 8.6 km section from the Start Line to Rawson Pass (location of Public Toilets) will be along a wide roadway easily able to accommodate a heavy vehicle. The roadway is solid and naturally compacted. Further along the course the roadway will gradually narrow. The final kilometer of the course is a fairly steep rise along a narrow pathway, in some places only one meter wide. The run will conclude and the clock for each competitor will be stopped as the runner touches the Summit Marker at elevation 2228 meters. The course layout for the Kosciuszko Run 2010 is 11 km as follows: 2.28 km will be an uphill leg, the next 7.77 km will be on the flat and 0.59 km will be on a downhill slope.
